Privacy Notice

The calculator is designed to work without collecting the financial and family figures entered into it. Calculations happen in the browser, no account is required and the MVP has no application database.

Calculator entries stay in the browser

Income, pension, Gift Aid, Child Benefit, child-age and childcare-spending entries are processed by JavaScript running on the user’s device. The application does not submit those values to a server endpoint or store them in a database. They exist in page memory while the calculator is open and are cleared when the page is reloaded or closed.

The site does not place calculator values in the page address, query string or shareable URL. That avoids exposing sensitive figures through browser history, copied links or ordinary request logs. A copied summary contains the figures shown on screen, so users should decide carefully where they paste or send it. The website cannot control a destination chosen by the user.

Clipboard and printing features

The ‘Copy summary’ button accesses the browser clipboard only after it is pressed. It writes a plain-text estimate containing adjusted net income, Child Benefit, HICBC, Personal Allowance and childcare income statuses. The application does not read existing clipboard contents. Browser permission behaviour may differ by device and security settings.

The ‘Print results’ button invokes the browser’s print dialog. Print styling hides the interactive form and keeps the result summary readable. A printout or PDF saved by the user is outside this website’s control and may contain sensitive financial information. Users should store, share and dispose of that output as they would any other personal financial document.

Cookies, analytics and advertising

The MVP does not set an application cookie, create an account, run behavioural advertising or send calculator events to an analytics product. It does not use income figures to build a profile. The absence of those features keeps the calculator fast and reduces the number of parties involved in processing a visit.

A future change that adds analytics, error monitoring, consent management or advertising would require this notice to be reviewed before deployment. Any optional measurement should avoid calculator field values and use the least data necessary. The update log should identify a material privacy change, and an appropriate consent mechanism should be introduced where the applicable rules require one.

Hosting and technical logs

Like most websites, the hosting and network providers used for a deployed copy may process ordinary technical information needed to deliver and secure the service. That can include an IP address, request time, requested page, browser information and security signals. Retention and precise handling depend on the chosen deployment provider’s configuration and privacy terms.

Calculator field values are not included in application requests by this codebase, so they should not appear in ordinary server access logs. Deployment owners remain responsible for reviewing platform settings, access controls, retention and any additional tooling they enable. This repository’s Vercel instructions describe deployment mechanics but do not automatically enable tracking or a user-account system.

Links to official services

The website links to GOV.UK, HMRC, Department for Education and official devolved-nation services. Following one of those links leaves this application. The destination may set its own cookies, keep its own logs or ask for information under its own privacy notice. This site does not receive the information entered into an official eligibility, tax or childcare account service.

External links open the official page so that a user can verify rules and complete actions the calculator cannot perform. A displayed source label and destination URL make that transition visible. Users should check the address bar before entering personal information and should use official contact routes if they need help with an account, claim, tax charge or childcare code.

Children’s information, questions and changes

The calculator asks only for broad child age groups and the number of children needed for an estimate. It does not ask for a child’s name, date of birth, address, school, provider or account code. Parents and carers should not paste identifying details into copied summaries. The tool is intended for adults assessing family-finance rules, not for children to create an account.

This notice describes the current static MVP checked on 20 June 2026. If the deployment owner adds a contact channel, privacy questions should be directed through that published route. Material changes to storage, analytics, cookies or third-party services should be reflected here and in the update log before release. Continued use after a published change is subject to the updated notice.
